Building the Future: RWB Joins Sherman ISD to Celebrate Three New Elementary Schools

In September, Sherman ISD hosted ribbon-cutting ceremonies for three brand-new elementary schools: Crutchfield Elementary, Fairview Elementary, and Parker Elementary. RWB Consulting Engineers provided the MEP-T design for each of these state-of-the-art learning environments, supporting the district’s vision for innovation and growth.
These projects were made possible through the $540 million bond program approved by voters in 2023, aimed at expanding capacity and modernizing educational facilities across Sherman ISD.
Crutchfield Elementary and Fairview Elementary both replace their original 1950s-era campuses with modern facilities designed to enhance learning and collaboration.
Crutchfield Elementary now accommodates up to 712 students and features an outdoor rooftop learning space dedicated to science education.
Fairview Elementary offers a spacious central courtyard that serves as a collaborative learning area and includes a design lab for hands-on, project-based exploration.
Paker Elementary, the district’s newest campus, honors longtime Sherman ISD educators Paula and David Parker. Located in northwest Sherman, the school will help meet the needs of the community’s rapidly growing population.
All three campuses include collaborative grade-level learning pods and gyms built to FEMA storm shelter standards, ensuring both safety and flexibility for students and staff.
RWB Consulting Engineers is proud to have partnered with VLK Architects and Sherman ISD in designing these forward-thinking educational spaces that will serve generations of learners for decades to come.

Welcome 2023 Spring Interns
Company NewsRWB is proud to welcome two new interns this Spring as part of our firm internship program.
During their time here at RWB, they will gain hands-on experience with MEP Engineering Design. They will help with the design process and documentation of current projects by working in AutoCAD and Revit and visiting project jobsites.

What inspired you to go after your major?
Initially, I graduated with a major in Wildlife Conservation and Science. After briefly working in the field, I wanted more of a challenge (and a career change!) and went back to school for Mechanical Engineering. I found that I really enjoyed tackling problems and solving them. Working towards an engineering degree also made it easier to tackle my own personal projects.
Any outside hobbies you wish to share?
Gardening, aquarium keeping, koi pond keeping, reading, and woodworking

From a young age, my passion for electricity has been a driving force in my life. The way it flows, sparks, and powers the world around me has always fascinated me, and I knew that pursuing a career in this field was my calling. My family have been a major factor in my pursue of college. Their unwavering love and support have given me the courage and determination to pursue higher education and achieve my goals.

NewslettersRWB Team Celebrates the Groundbreaking of Lake Highlands Middle School
Company News, Project UpdatesOn Tuesday, September 6, 2022, the RWB team joined Cadence McShane Construction, Perkins & Will, and Richardson ISD to break ground on Lake Highlands Middle School . The team celebrated the start of construction at 10301 Walnut Hill Lane in Dallas, next to Lake Highlands Junior High.
Significantly, this project marks Richardson ISD’s first new school construction since 2014, showing a strong commitment to educational advancement. The new 249,000-square-foot, three-story school will feature flexible learning environments and an ICC-500-rated community tornado shelter for safety.
RWB designed the building’s MEP systems to support both student comfort and long-term energy efficiency. The district selected this site to replace the original Lake Highlands Junior High, which was built in the 1960s. As a result, the new facility will modernize education in the area and serve future generations for decades to come.
The facility will use a 4-pipe chilled and heating water system to serve most of the school’s three-story structure. Meanwhile, rooftop AC units will condition the athletic areas and other specialty spaces throughout the building. Centrally located on the first floor, a STEM lab will feature a mechanical room with full-height windows.
This design allows students to observe the mechanical systems that serve the first floor in real time. As a result, instructors can easily incorporate real-world MEP system functions into their STEM curriculum. The design team positioned the project in an underutilized section of the adjacent field to enable phased construction. Because of this strategic placement, crews can build the new facility while keeping the existing school operational. This multi-year phased approach minimizes disruption to students and staff throughout the transition.
The new school will open in August 2024 and accommodate up to 1,500 students in grades 6 through 8. Perkins & Will serves as the Architect of Record, while Cadence McShane leads construction as the General Contractor.
