Our Founding Vision

RWB Consulting Engineers was originally founded as Reed, Wells, Benson and Company in 1986 by James H. Reed, Jr., John A. Wells, Jr., P.E., and Eric T. Benson, P.E. From the beginning, their goal was clear: to deliver the highest quality mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) services to architects, facility owners, developers, and tenants.

With a strong commitment to excellence, the founding partners laid the groundwork for what would become one of the most trusted MEP engineering firms in North Texas. Even today, we continue to uphold that standard in everything we do.

Early Milestones

The firm’s first major project—the American Airlines Headquarters Building—marked a significant turning point. This 500,000 square-foot, four-story office complex required the team to expand rapidly. As a result, by the fourth quarter of 1986, the firm had grown to twenty employees and successfully delivered the final plans.

Ultimately, this achievement established Reed, Wells, Benson and Company as a formidable Aviation MEP consulting firm.

Sustained Growth and Sector Expansion

In the years that followed, the company steadily expanded its team and project portfolio. Over time, we earned a reputation for delivering high-quality work across a variety of sectors—including aviation, education, municipal, and corporate offices.

Despite economic shifts, we remained strong. For instance, during the dot-com bust, the Great Recession, and the financial downturns of major clients, RWB maintained stability. While many nearby firms faced layoffs and setbacks, we weathered these storms through thoughtful leadership and long-term planning.

Evolving Leadership, Enduring Principles

As the founding partners began to retire, a new leadership team emerged. Today, RWB is guided by a dynamic group of four principals, seven senior associates, and seven associates. This team is committed to preserving our core values while adapting to the demands of the modern engineering industry.

In 2016, we proudly celebrated our 30th anniversary—a milestone that reflects our dedication to growth, strong client relationships, and our willingness to explore new markets.

Continued Growth and Innovation

In recent years, RWB has continued to thrive. In August 2019, we employed 56 engineers, designers, technicians, and support staff. Notably, over the past three years, we’ve experienced an impressive 35% growth in staff and capabilities. This upward trajectory reflects our flexibility and unwavering focus on client service.
