RWB Firm History

RWB Consulting Engineers is an MEP Engineering consulting firm based in Dallas, Texas. For three decades, our team has been providing top-notch engineering services to owners throughout North Texas and beyond. Our firm works on projects related to aviation, education, municipal, offices, and other commercial buildings. We have many specialties including central utility plant design and building information modeling.

Our firm’s history is an important piece of who we are today. Since our founding, our firm has grown into the premier MEP engineering firm in North Texas.

For over 30 years, RWB has delivered excellence in engineering services to North Texas and beyond. The history of the firm is an important piece of who we are today.

Our firm was founded under the name Reed, Wells, Benson and Company in 1986. The founding principals were James H. Reed, Jr., John A. Wells, Jr., P.E. and Eric Benson, P.E. The primary goal of the firm was – and still is – to provide the highest quality of professional mechanical, electrical, and plumbing services.

The founders of our company set the standard for excellence in MEP engineering services. We are proud to continue their legacy by providing the best services to our clients.

James H. Reed, Jr., John A. Wells, Jr., P.E. and Eric T. Benson, P.E. established Reed, Wells, Benson, and in June 1986. They established the firm with the resolve to provide the highest quality of professional Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) planning and design services to architects, facility owners, developers, and tenants.

The Company’s first major project was the American Airlines Headquarters Building. A four-story 500,000 square-foot office building was a massive undertaking that required a larger team. The Principals began hiring the required staff to complete the project. By the fourth quarter of 1986, the firm had grown to twenty people, and the Company successfully delivered the final plans for the project. Ultimately, this American Airlines project established Reed, Wells, Benson, and Company as a formidable MEP Consulting firm.

Over the next several decades, Reed, Wells, Benson, and Company continued to add staff to support the growing amount of work. The Company has worked in many sectors, including aviation, education, municipal, and corporate offices.

Like any business, the Company faced both opportunities and challenges. Reed, Wells, Benson, and Company remained sound through the dot-com bust, the Great Recession, and the financial struggles of major clients. While nearby firms suffered major cuts to their staff, Reed, Wells, Benson, and Company were prepared to weather these challenges, demonstrating strength in leadership and planning.

Over time, the leadership of the company has shifted as the founders have retired, and we named new leaders. The firm has a strong leadership team, including five Principals, three Senior Associates, and three Associates. The leadership team ensures the continued success of the Company for years to come. In 2016, Reed, Wells, Benson, and Company celebrated its thirtieth year in operation.

In recent years, the Company has continued its legacy of success while adapting to change. The Company has continued to grow its staff to support the number and scale of projects the firm has taken on. As of August 2019, the firm employs a staff of 56 engineers, designers, technicians, and support personnel. In 2019, the Principals amended the Company name to RWB Consulting Engineers – sometimes simply RWB for short. In keeping the founder’s initials, the Company pays homage to the founder’s legacy.

RWB stands as the premier mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering firm in Dallas, TX. The firm continues to provide high-quality MEP engineering services to clients, just as the founders set out to accomplish. The company’s success is demonstrated not only in our long-standing history but also in our thousands of satisfied clients. RWB is proud to provide engineering services on a wide range of projects that serve our community.
